How to Clean an Aluminum Herb Grinder
How to clean an anodized aluminum herb grinder step by step: brush, wash, isopropyl soak, o-ring care and basket mesh, plus what never to use.

A QUBUS is machined from aluminum and anodized, so it doesn't need much. A quick brush-out often and a proper clean now and then keeps the teeth sharp and the twist-lock smooth.
Every few uses: brush it out
- Twist the magnetic lock and separate the layers. There are no threads to clog.
- Use a small, soft brush to clear the teeth and the grinding chamber.
- Lift out the basket (if you have one) and tap the mesh gently from behind.
Now and then: wash the parts
- Take the grinder fully apart and remove the o-rings first.
- Wash the aluminum parts in warm water with a little mild dish soap. A soft toothbrush gets between the teeth.
- For sticky residue, a short soak in isopropyl alcohol loosens it. Rinse well afterwards.
- Dry every part completely before you put it back together, including the magnet pockets.
Avoid steel wool, scouring pads and harsh cleaners: they can scratch the anodized finish and the laser engraving.
Care for the o-rings
The o-rings are what make the QUBUS airtight. Wash them separately with warm soapy water and let them dry. If the twist feels stiff, members of our community use a very light wipe of food-grade oil on the o-ring; wipe off any excess. Worn or stretched o-ring? Replacements are cheap: add extra o-rings in the builder for $2 each or buy a set in parts.
The basket mesh
The basket screen catches fine material. Brush it from the outside so you don't push particles through, and wash it like the other parts. The mesh is screw-less and changeable, so you can replace it if it ever gets damaged.
Warranty
Every QUBUS has a limited lifetime warranty. If something isn't right, email [email protected] with your order number.
